Elementary School

After the Turkish invasion in 1974 refugees from the surrounding villages and the nearby village of Acheritou from where most were settled in Vrysoulles.

When schools opened in September of 1974 parents wanted their children to continue their education. After many efforts by the teachers Adamos and Demetris Papadopoulos and the then head of the Community Charalampou Apostolou and a team of  voluntary refugees parents returned to the occupied village of Acheritou where they bought back anything the could from the school that they could use defying the danger this involved. With their determination they were able to run the school again in the hard circumstances after the war.

The school was held in the packing plant SEDIGEP. In the plant there were about 1300 people with their children. There was enough space for the people and the school.

In the packing plant the school operated for three years (1974-1977). Half the children went to school in the mornings and the other half in the afternoon. In the June 1971 the teachers and pupils moved to a new school building in Agios Georgios. The opening ceremony was done by the then minister of Education Mr. Chrisostomos Sofianos and the headmaster Mr. Savvas Kallis.

The school has had many headmasters and teachers amongst others were Georgios Sillouris, Andreas Vorkas, Kyriacos Patsias, Savvas Kallis, Petros Sozos, Demetris Papadopoulos, Petros Nicolaou, Georgios Efthimiou, Loris Kliridis, Kostas Makridis, Paraskevas Zinkis, Loucas Pattixis, Eirini Mavri Xatzilouka.Today (December 2012) there are 114 children and 11 teachers.
